Description
Gradis’ciutta was born when Robert Princic, having finished his studies in Oenology and Viticulture in Conegliano, in 1997 decided at the age of 20 to give a name to the work of the land that his family had carried out for generations. First his grandfather, then his father, had bought some land to produce grapes which they then sold to third parties: the company turning point was given by Robert who decided to create his own brand to tell his passion for the territory and wine. The name chosen by Robert, Gradis’ciutta, is taken from that of the locality in the heart of Collio which has been generous with excellent grapes for centuries and is closely linked to the history of his family: a clear declaration of attachment to the land, family identity and passion for viticulture. All these characteristics are tied to a double knot and on which all the company’s activities are based.
Today, thanks to the work of the whole family, “Gradis’ciutta” has reached 25 hectares of vineyards, out of a total of 35, in the communes of San Floriano del Collio, Gorizia, Capriva del Friuli and Dolegna del Collio. This choice is not casual, on the contrary, given the peculiarities of the territory it is based on the will to express in full the characteristics of Collio and its hills.
Constantly supported by his tireless parents, Robert made the business grow, getting awards for his wines and personal recognition, without ever forgetting the right balance in the relationship between man and nature. A philosophy which is reflected in the character of wines and in the approach with others.
The current headquarter of Gradis’ciutta is in Giasbana, a village in San Floriano del Collio, where it was built a winery which represents the culmination of many years of work.
What was initially a simple shed that served both for the shelter of tools and tractors and for winemaking, has now become a building that is the result of a balanced combination of technology, sustainability and what can be preserved of the tradition: wooden beams, bricks and tiles recovered from the demolition of old rural houses blend with modern winemaking technologies and photovoltaic systems that serve to provide energy to all activities of the structure. Every area of the venue represents love for the territory, the large tables in the tasting room, for example, have been produced with wood coming from Collio’s woods.
For the vinification of products are used both steel containers and oak casks, for the aging of some wines.
The growth of the company does not intend to stop and there are many development projects. In few months “Gradis’ciutta” will make available to its guests an accommodation facility which was born from the recovery of a palace of the fifteenth century, now abandoned, and which is exactly in the heart of the lands of the winery. In this way Robert wants to offer an immersive experience among vineyards, scents, tastes and the characteristic hospitality of Princic family.
